Unreal Software Ideas For UnrealSoftware SiteThats why i ask for that feature
For a moderator to be able to comment over a report would be a great idea to share our thoughts about them. I don't have all the moderators as contacts on Skype/Steam, and even if I had them, I think it would be annoying for them to receive messages (about banning someone?) while they're doing important stuff.
If there's someone who could confirm what I'm saying, I'm pretty sure it would be Rainoth.
Having a section where the staff can check reports, would be quite of a good investment of time.

Well, now i was wondering that some users can for example be mad of someone and report people randomly for no reason.
So there might be security parameters in order to check no one is reporting just because reporting users is funny stuff or also put some limitations (e.g.: 2 maximum reports per day/ip).
It's a really complicated thing but it's possible to do, and urgently necessary nowadays, as you said, a good investment of time.

You can always put a small button called "Report" on forums/file archive/PM's
no thanks I don't want moderators creeping on my messages. In DC we trust.

change to
And please, encrypt our connections with SSL, its kinda useful right now, at least in login forms, more security = more safety

@everyone, can you just not give DC basic coding/server advice when you don't fully understand what it is yourself (be my guest if it's the newest shit on the market and you fully know what it's all about). It's annoying and doesn't make yourself look smart. It's pretty much wasting everyone's time and fills up this thread like there's no tomorrow. Thanks.
View counter, or a statistics button. When you create a thread on forums or you upload a file in the file archive, you may wanna know how many people read/see your topic/file how many are reading it and more features that can be introduced in the future.
EDIT: Okay sorry didn't saw my first idea was something that exists. Seems weird.

and hit Ignore users.
Idea: Notifications.
- Somewhere to get notified when someone likes/comments your files/threads, and not even yours, you also could press a button in a topic just to get alerted if something happen there (other user commenting/mod closing it...)
Idea: Liking
- When you want to leave a like in a file in the filearchive, you must comment that file.
But if i just wanna say: I like your file, is running well in my server; is like kinda weird for me.
So in my opinion the site should let you like a file without having to leave a comment.
Something to fix (just a tiny ortographic fault):
Quote
The U.S.G.N. is using a heartbeat [...]. If a server does not send hearbeat messages for several minutes it will get removed from the list automatically.
You meant heartbeat? (the url page is http://www.unrealsoftware.de/usgn.php?s=info)

If the link is broken it would just use the already supplied .zip from the file itself. Otherwise they could just be removed/declined from the File Archive.
Suggestion
You are already able to search user about their USGN-ID or their name. It could be useful that old names also could be searched.
That means, one of my old name was piWi, so if somebody now searching for a piWi, my account also will get shown.
Cheers
This is not just a theoretical problem but something which really happens a lot in reality. Every experienced internet user who reads posts in multiple forums/boards probably already experienced a lot of dead links in posts there.
There are even file archive rules/guidelines against having external links only for the very same reason.
It's cool to add ADDITIONAL external sources in the file description but the actual file should always be uploaded here so it doesn't get lost.

What if you made the File Archive able to handle webhook posts from GitHub, automatically download the file provided by GitHub and replaced the old .zip from the File Archive with the new one obtained from GitHub?
The file would still be saved on the forum, and it wouldn't get lost. GitHub is a site that's probably going to be online for a very long time.
Plus this.

Github even automatically provides the zip files (URL = https://github.com/[user]/[repository]/archive/master.zip)
I've done something similar to update projects with the original repositories, and LuaPower even implemented that to obtain the documentation file of it's projects.

Being able to hide your old names would be nice
That would be super confusing. Hell, it's already confusing.
